Bla bla bla, about this website...

I'm Kathleen Tuite... I'm a senior at UC Santa Cruz (going to University of Washington in the fall!) and I've made this site as part of a final project for a technical writing class. The real part of the assignment is writing a big paper... but I chose to write my paper on using the facebook developer tools, so I had to go and make an application first! Adam Smith has been helping me out, especially with the javascript and just making this thing happen faster than it would otherwise.

So... This site was created using the facebook developer tools, the facebook API, which is available to anyone. You can find that at the bottom of any normal facebook page, the link that says 'developers'. The resulting application is not part of facebook, but it talks to facebook to temporarily get some of your basic information, (and also looks like facebook because I'm borrowing their css styles). Logging in and passwords are handled entirely by facebook, and your information is still only available to others in your network.

This particular application gives you many different poking options so you can poke your friends in an entirely new way! The poke is stored on this site here and a facebook message is sent to your friend telling them to come back to this site to see their poke. Methods of poking range from the standard poking, to jabbing, impaling, smooching, etc. with other options like where and with what poking instrument. If you have more ideas for how to poke, send me a message on facebook by clicking here!
